URBAN DISTRIBUTION OF EDUCABLE MENTAL HANDICAP.

Abstrakt: This article focuses on an investigation that was specifically undertaken to examine the characteristic features of the neighborhood environment of the ascertained mentally handicapped child. The investigation was carried out in Edinburgh, Scotland. Findings of the investigation reveal that referral rate to special schools for the mentally handicapped was related to twenty socio-economic variables. The educable mentally handicapped children were found to be concentrated in districts characterized by overcrowding, low standards of child care, endemic disease, symptoms of social disorganization, high birth rate and local authority housing provision.
