The article focuses on the former plantation, called Clifton Place, and home of American Civil War Confederate Brigadier General, Mexican War veteran, politician and slaveholder Gideon Pillow in Tennessee which is managed by his descendant Campbell Ridley. Topics discussed include the construction of cabins for Pillow's slaves, the destruction of Pillow's mansion in 1874 by a fire, and the planting and harvesting of cotton and other crops at the plantation. |
