Abstrakt: The article focuses on thyroid antibodies and Australian antigen in Down's syndrome (DS). The sera of 106 patients with DS in two large institutions and of 14 patients living at home were tested for thyroid antibodies and Australia antigen. Thyroid antibodies were detected in the sera of 34 per cent of subjects in institutions. Thus, a statistically significant association between the presence of Australia antigen and thyroid antibodies in subjects with DS was not found. The same conclusion obtains when the results for each of the two thyroid antibody tests were analyzed separately.
