Abstrakt:	The article presents the results of a clinical investigation of 27 mentally retarded males with the fragile X syndrome. Apart from mental retardation these patients often showed psychiatric and behavioural disturbances; one child was found to be autistic. Twenty of 27 patients were reported to exhibit psychiatric or behavioural problems in addition to the mental retardation. In this connection it should be noted that a number of the older patients were or had been institutionalized, a fact which should be taken into account when evaluating psycho-social aspects.
