This section provides a comprehensive encyclopedia account of the Italian experience in the U.S. covering topics, issues, people, places, organizations, arts, among others. Italians experienced ethnic prejudice when they settled in the U.S. during the period of mass immigration. This established their status in the U.S. society and shaped the expression of Italian ethnicity for succeeding generations. An estimated 5 million Italian people left their country for the U.S. between 1880 and 1930 to look for jobs. Many of them were employed as unskilled manual laborers in factories. John N. LaCorte was the founder of the Italian Historical Society of America and the Better World John LaCorte Institute. He was a leader of Italian Americans who educated the Italian American community in the U.S. |
