Researchers at the National Research Centre have conducted a study on enzymes and coenzymes, specifically focusing on pectinase activity in yeast isolates. They identified a yeast isolate, Rhodotorula mucilaginosa PY18, with high pectinase activity and further enhanced it through mutagenesis. The researchers determined the optimal culture conditions for the pectinase-producing yeast mutant and isolated and sequenced the endo-polygalacturonase PGI gene from both the original yeast strain and the mutant. They also validated the 3D structure of the endo-PGI enzyme and conducted molecular docking studies. The research concluded that the mutant yeast strain showed significantly higher endo-PG1 activity when expressed in E. coli. [Extracted from the article] |
