Abstrakt: The Leuser Ecosystem in Indonesia's Aceh province is a vital rainforest region that is home to a diverse range of species, including critically endangered Sumatran orangutans, elephants, rhinos, and tigers. However, undercover investigations have revealed that major global brands, such as Procter and Gamble, Unilever, Nestlé, PepsiCo, Mondelēz, and Nissin Foods, are sourcing illegal palm oil from the nationally protected Rawa Singkil Wildlife Reserve within the Leuser Ecosystem. The destruction of the Leuser Ecosystem not only threatens the survival of these iconic species but also contributes to devastating floods, landslides, and the loss of livelihoods for local communities. While some progress has been made by certain companies in implementing no deforestation policies, more decisive action is needed to protect this globally valuable treasure.
