Abstrakt: Today's engineers have to prove serious technical knowledge, but also financial and managerial knowledge, required by the continuous expansion of their responsibilities in organizations. But, equally, engineers must have more and more transversal skills, respectively soft skills, as other researchers call them. The paper primarily demonstrates the importance of engineers' skills for the organizations in which they work, insisting on their intervention in increasing the organization's efficiency. Secondly, the results of a study from secondary sources, carried out over five years, related to the participation of first-year students from an engineering faculty in the local marketing competitions are presented. Compared to the students of the previous series (from the 2017-2018 academic year), who did not participate in the marketing competition, the last series have registered an increase in both hard and soft skills. An important conclusion of the paper is that future engineers must be involved in professional competitions based on creativity from their first year of study, thus increasing their chances of becoming valuable engineers for the organizations in which they will work.
