Abstrakt: The article presents information on an electrophysiological study designed to determine possible quantitative and/or qualitative differences between quinidine and hydroquinidine. For the study, fifteen beagle dogs of both sexes were anesthetized with pentobarbital. The atrial, nodal, and ventricular effective and functional refractory periods were measured at a driven rate of 160 beats/minute and with an extrastimulus of increasing prematurity delivered every 8 driven beats. Special care was taken to perform cross-over infusion studies and to obtain clinically relevant drug plasma concentrations and/or electrophysiological actions.
