The article presents information on a study which investigated whether intravenous class I and class II antiarrhythmic drugs could affect delayed potentials detected at cardiac mapping in dogs studied 1-2 weeks after anterior myocardial infarction. Delayed potentials detected at cardiac mapping or from the body surface during sinus rhythm are markers for inducible and spontaneous ventricular tachyarrhythmias in patients with chronic myocardial infarction and appear to be due to conduction delay through small areas of myocardium. For this study, sixteen mongrel dogs of either sex, weighing 20-30 kg, underwent cardiac mapping under halothane anesthesia 7-14 days after creation of an anterior infarct at a previous left lateral thoracotomy. |
