This article is a comparative study that tackles the different ways of perceiving sexuality in two representative texts that address Timorese sexuality. The article seeks to identify behavioural patterns of sexuality in order to disentangle their historical relationships and their impact on the identification and affirmation of gender and/or sexuality(ies). The País de sonho e encantamento, which does mention orgy rituals, and A nona do Pinto Brás, which delves into the amorous initiations in Timor of a Portuguese military Quartermster, mediate certain suggestive answers that prove quite interesting. The article seeks to uncover differential perspectives, namely with respect to experiencing a range of sexualities, on the one hand, and on the other hand, with respect to the gamut of relationships entangled in issues of gender. While, on the one hand, a greater naturalness with respect to sexuality constitutes just a different behaviour, on the other hand at the level of social and political roles behaviours become a more complex issue.
