This article discusses various issues related to metals industry. The Industrial Revolution of the nineteenth century provided considerable impetus for the development of improved hot rolling processes for iron and also for other metals, such as aluminum. During the second half of the century, considerable progress was made in mills for rolling structural shapes. The rapid progress of the metals industry in the early part of the twentieth century included the development of the open-hearth and electric furnaces and major advancements in rolling and shaping of metals.
