Is Ganser arguing for a contrapuntal reading of the natural and positive law divide as it relates to the pirate figure? Ganser's disjointed method leaves the reader to wonder: What broader role I do i images play in Ganser's theory? And yet, in traditional legal thought, natural law and positive law rest at opposite ends of the jurisprudential spectrum, and as the twentieth-century debates demonstrate, a hard-line commitment to positive law generally precludes espousal of natural law.
