Abstrakt: This article presents information on how to start and breakout in backstroke. It is informed that as the swimmer draws up to the blocks, he/she wants to be like a coiled spring, but it is opined that the swimmer should not over-compress. Swimmers should keep a straight line from top of spine to the bottom of spine. Toes should be just under the water. Rear end and upper quads should also be just under the water. The area behind the knees should be above the water. At the start, the swimmer should send his/her energy up and back. The swimmer should throw the head up and back to uncoil the spine.
