Abstrakt: This article focuses on two books about author Susanna Rowson. In the book Susanna Rowson: Charlotte Temple, by Cathy N. Davidson, she deftly includes intellectual and social history in her literary study of Susanna Rowson's Charlotte Temple. Continuing the critical exploration of her previous study, Revolution and the Word: The Rise of the Novel in America, Davidson provides a refreshing discussion of Rowson's work, placing it in the context of women's struggles to reshape literary creation and criticism. In the book Susann Rowson, Patricia L. Parker discusses Rowson's literary purposes and style, and analyzes each work to display characteristic themes: morality, Christian principles, and the betterment of the lot of women.
