This article presents a research guide to the life and works of playwright Leonid Andreyev. Born Leonid Nikolaevich Andreyev August 21, 1871 in Orel, Russia, Andreyev was one of pre-revolutionary Russia's most important playwrights. It is therefore understandable that most of the biographical material written about him during his lifetime was in Russian, as were major editions of his collected works. In the West, although Andreyev's plays continued to generate interest in the English-speaking countries over the years, relatively little biographical information was collected or published. |
