This article focuses on the influence of selected socio-economic factors on the level of sports achievements in the various countries. A number of special studies pointed to the influence of certain concrete social and economic factors on the development of sport and the achievement of a higher level of sports results. Thus, sociologists like G.S. Kenyon from the United States as well as I.I. Zelenov and J.S. Tarabykin from the Soviet Union found evidence of a positive correlation between the increase in the income of the population and the number of people practicing sport. P.C. McIntosh noticed the dependence of the sport successes of English and Australian teams on the budget expenditure destined by these countries for the preparation of their sports teams to the Olympic Games in Melbourne. Large-scale research aimed at defining the influence of selected socio-economic factors on the level of sports achievements in the various countries was conducted by E. Jokl. He compared the number of athletes attending the 15th Olympic Games and the number of points received by each country with the number of inhabitants of the given country. |
