In this article the author focuses on the problems related to the evaluation of self and team performance and feelings of satisfaction after success and failure. The author here attempts to investigate how team members evaluate their own performance as well as their team performance right after experiencing success or failure. Ratings were obtained in four conditions of immediate outcome, and were examined as a function of members' objective performance in the group and member's position on the team. The study was spurred by the fact that previous results were obtained under laboratory conditions and no attempt had been made thus far in applying this problem design to the field setting. Group performance is not a mere additive function of individual member performances. That is to say, some members exhibit better performances than others. Thus, the question comes to mind as to how much sell and group evaluations are affected by the competence of the group members and by the responsibility each member has over group performance. |
