Abstrakt: Intimate partner violence (IPV) (also referred to as interpersonal violence or domestic violence) is abuse or aggression which occurs within a personal, often romantic, relationship. According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV.org), IPV is an ongoing and prevalent concern in the United States and throughout the world. NCADV affects more than 10 million women and men yearly experience physical abuse by an intimate partner in the United States. Many healthcare providers are taught to treat IPV as an acute event; however, healthcare providers should also view IPV occurring chronically. This article provides an in-depth look at an evolving case study of a patient presenting to an Emergency Department, trying to hide the true cause of her injury. By examining the patient's history, presenting signs and symptoms, and characteristic radiological findings, the case study leads the reader through steps of reflection assisting in identifying this occurrence of IPV.
