Abstrakt: This article reports on a monograph entitled The Rise, Fall and Reincarnation of the Yorkshire Woolcombers' Association Ltd. December 1899 to February 1906, about the brief and disastrous history of a Yorkshire woolcombing combine which is written and published by Bradford woolman Peter Bell. Bell whose earlier book published in 2000 has become a standard work of reference for students and businessmen alike. The book is a detailed account of a forgotten company whose activities and swift demise proved to be a traumatic event in Bradford's history. The Association was registered in August 1899 to purchase various woolcombing businesses in Bradford and the surrounding district. Initially 30 commission combers and eight topmaker-combers were acquired. The development attracted wide interest within the industry and among the general public and both debenture stock and preference shares were quickly snapped up. The benefits from combining the activities of the initial 38 individual businesses held out the prospect of annual profits of at least £100,000 certainly when based on the profit figures of the acquired companies published in the original prospectus which were later shown to be fraudulent. By August 1902 the Bradford & District Bank had refused to increase the Association's overdraft.
