Abstrakt: Funded by a $985,752, three-year HOWTO grant from the Oregon Health Authority, the Interprofessional Integrated Behavioral Health Education and SBIRT Training (IP is BEST) program will place a diverse student cohort of 10 students and one Physician Assistant (PA) Fellow each year into an interprofessional clinic focused on rural and underserved patients dealing with behavioral health and substance use issues. Two new, innovative training programs will be established in this collaborative interprofessional setting: l.A two-part Certificate Program: SBIRT (screen, brief intervention, referral, and treatment) Training and Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Training; and 2.The first post-graduate PA Behavioral Health Fellowship Program on the West Coast. Interwoven within both programs will be a new diversity and cultural awareness curriculum, focusing on the social determinants of health. Participants will be serving rural and underserved populations dealing with behavioral health and substance use issues with the goals of increasing the clinicians' effectiveness, knowledge base, assessment skills, cultural competency, and marketability after program completion. Project Goal: Transform behavioral health and substance use training by equipping Oregon's future healthcare workforce with innovative skills, advanced knowledge, and increased confidence in providing culturally responsive care to under-served populations.
