Abstrakt: An additional 24" of freeboard would make the boat more versatile and forgiving, but it would increase hull weight by more than 2,000 lbs and raise the VCG (vertical center of gravity) and CE (center of effort), which would in turn require additional ballast. The low freeboard is the result of those cultural ties to the Broads cruisers of the early 1900s, but it also makes great sense in view of the boat's actual use. DEPARTMENTS Design by Andrew Wolstenholme The Broads River Cruiser Moonshadow was designed about 12 years ago to be competitive in River Cruiser Class racing on the protected inland tidal waters of England's Norfolk Broads.
