This article provides an overview of how the emotional and behavioral symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in an individual often can over- whelm a couple's coping capacities and even threaten the viability of the relationship. A brief overview of the latest research on PTSD and emotionally focused couple therapy (EFCT) is provided. The distinct knowledge and skill base of EFCT as it has been applied to the assessment and intervention with a couple that has been profoundly affected by PTSD is illustrated.
