As businesses have become increasingly global and require that employees move between countries more frequently to carry out their roles, the need for a compliant cross-border mobility policy has become apparent. Given the demand for a mobile-ready workforce combined with an increasingly protectionist discourse driving national immigration policies, maintaining compliance with immigration and tax laws, and with company policies, should be at the forefront of corporate agendas. When devising a compliant immigration program, employers should be aware of the various measures that governments use to expose immigration non-compliance, such as information sharing and desk-based or on-site inspections, as well as potential penalties for non-compliance that are designed to have financial and reputational consequences. By incorporating certain best practices into their cross-border mobility policies to address challenges head-on, employers can feel confident about having a mobile-ready population.
