Abstrakt: The article reports on the condition of black journalism student. In the wake of the Kerner Commission Report' of the late 1960's the journalism profession has expended energies in various directions in an attempt to strengthen its credibility among blacks and other minority citizens. Several organizations have undertaken recruitment and hiring programs to complement a myriad of college scholarships, grants and internships. Success in the classroom is essential for all students in today's "tight" occupational marketplace. That success, however, doesn't begin in the first class session. Rather, student success in most instances is greatly dependent upon formal preparation, life experiences and attitude toward subject matter. In general, black students have had poorer secondary school preparation for journalism than other students.
