Abstrakt: | Walvin reminds us that slaves were treated as property, that slave families were torn apart for economic gain, and that brutality was necessary to control slave resistance. Also, Walvin reports that Brazil imported the most African slaves and was the last to end the practice, but the major part of the book is about the Caribbean and especially US slaving history.
