While I Working in Cork i situates workers' experiences primarily within a socio-economic nexus, this framework is effectively marshalled to advance understanding of still-under-researched aspects of Ireland's recent past. Via its factory-level perspective, I Working in Cork i here reads new complexity into national histories of industrial relations by showing how patterns of industrial militancy were responsive to different managerial styles and welfare approaches at the plant level. If a general consequence of the "cultural turn" has been to enhance scholarly interest in subjectivity as an object of historical enquiry, this trend has been noticeably less pronounced within historical writing on twentieth century Ireland.
