Adopting a social marketing perspective, this study investigated insights from health experts at university clinics regarding HPV and college students. Clinics are the front lines in the fight against HPV among students. Depth interviews were used to elicit information concerning knowledge about and reactions to HPV, the fastest growing and second most-prevalent sexually transmitted disease in the United States. Findings suggested areas of broad consensus, including the prevalence of the disease and the value of mass media for raising awareness and education. However respondents were did not show consensus about other issues of importance for message designers, such as the severity of the disease and the appropriate targets or objectives for message campaigns.
