This article deals with the development of a fiber which combines the properties of cotton and polyester. One of the major synthetic fibers, polyester, although possessing several desirable properties such as high strength, attractive handle, dimensional stability, easy-care properties, wash and wear and wrinkle-free characteristics and suitability for blending with other types of fiber has however, certain undesirable qualities such as lack of hydrophilicity, generation and accumulation of static charges and oleophilicity. Polyester fabrics are therefore not as comfortable as natural fiber fabrics. Specialists have expected that for the next few years, although natural fibers will retain part of the market owing to their unique and comfortable feel, processes of blending and new chemical fiber materials will gradually permit the natural fibers to become the major factor owing to their rich plasticity and their conformity with modern men's simple lifestyle and characteristic clothing ideas. With these in mind, various attempts have been made to impart comfort-related properties to synthetic fibers. Out of these efforts of improvement, Coolplus, is a major development by a Chinese company. Coolplus is made from regular polyester together with a special alkali-soluble polymer to create four channels on the fiber surface. |
