Calcifying epithelial odontogenic tumors (CEOTs) are extremely rare and are classified as benign. An 80-year-old woman presented with swelling of the right mandibular molar region. Panoramic radiographs taken at the age of 76 years for implant surgery showed no presence of tumors. We performed a cone-beam computed tomography that showed bone resorption in the right mandible; magnetic resonance imaging revealed a uniform signal intensity. Tissue biopsy revealed histological findings of odontogenic epithelium calcification, which led to the suspicion of a calcifying epithelial odontogenic tumor. The patient underwent tumor enucleation and the extraction of the right first and second mandibular molars and the wisdom tooth under general anesthesia. We recorded no major postoperative complications. This report describes the duration of tumor growth in a rare case of a CEOT occurring after the age of 76 years. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
