Abstrakt: Textile industry is one of the leading industries and is one of the fundamental necessities of life. The conventional processes and products used in this industry has severe consequences on the environment and health. The materials used were highly toxic in nature and disposal of waste bad harmful effects on the environment and a cause of threat to public health. Regulations are expected to intensify with emphasis on the environmental safety. Industrial Biotechnology aims at using microorganisms and enzymes to produce products and processes that are clean and green in nature. Use of enzymes in various processes and biotreatment in preparation, pre-treatment and finishing processes and all the processes in the production chain will absolutely help reduce the amount of emissions and pollutants. These biotechnological approaches replace the conventional chemical usage and ensure that biobased products and processes are used to not only help simplify the processes but also to reduce the waste that is generated and to curtail the detrimental effects on the environment. Industrial biotechnology aims at systems that are such that biological substances are used as the raw material for production and the byproducts released are replaced back thus ensuring the cycle of sustainability. This article highlights the applications of industrial biotechnology in various points in the textile processes and its role in achieving total sustainability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
