Discusses the sources of pathogenic microorganisms and their fate during land application of waste. Possibility of disease-causing microorganisms in land-applied wastes to create a potential risk to public health; Inclusions in the main sources of pathogenic microorganisms; Factors needed to be understood in order to manage health risk; Increasing demand that risk associated with the land treatment and application be better defined; Discussion that more data are needed on the concentrations of pathogens in wastes, the effectiveness of treatment processes, standardization of detection methodology and better quantification of exposure. |
