Abstrakt: The article describes the fundamental properties and structure of non-binary Bose-Chaudhuri-Hocquenghem (BCH) cyclic block codes and a closely related class of non-binary codes called Reed-Solomon codes. Certain important and useful modifications of BCH and Reed-Solomon codes are also discussed. According to the authors, the binary BCH codes are a special case of a class of cyclic codes that can be constructed for any symbol alphabet defined on a finite field, which can be a prime field or some extension of a prime field.
