Building on the success that UMBC has had primarily with African American students, the book promotes inclusivity for minoritized students, both in program enrollment and leadership spheres. Higher education is not immune to paradigm shifts, and Freeman A. Hrabowski III, along with Philip J. Rous and Peter H. Henderson, in their book "The Empowered University: Shared Leadership, Culture Change, and Academic Success" share how they have reinterpreted the culture of UMBC (University of Maryland, Baltimore County) to produce effective and sustainable changes.
