Abstrakt: Activated coagulation times (ACTs) are measured during atrial fibrillation ablations to determine heparin dosing during the procedure. The standard for ACT monitoring has been from arterial samples. The measurement agreement between arterial and venous ACT samples has yielded mixed results. The purpose of this study was to utilize a standardized protocol for ACT sampling to determine arterial and venous ACT sampling agreement. Simultaneous arterial and venous ACTs were collected during ablative procedures in 38 patients. Paired samples were significantly correlated and had nonsignificant differences. These results suggest that arterial lines may be eliminated without posing additional risks to the patient. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
