Bhachu's examination of the cultural legacy of the makers she studies in the book includes multi-generational histories of movement. In this book, Bhachu examines the lives of eleven movers and makers of Punjabi Sikh descent as they leverage their maker heritage and expertise to develop the necessary social and material capital. But she subverts connotations of resilience and invites us to re-examine it as a necessary condition not for survival, but rather for the acculturation and accumulation of social and economic capital acquired when makers move through the world.
