Flood is generally referred to overflow of water due to heavy rainfall, broken of dams, storm surges and tsunamis. channels with steep sides, lack of vegetation, melting snow and ice. Sometimes floods occur due to mismanagement of river channels and discharge of water from dams and reservoirs which is called manmade ftood. Every year floods occur in various states in India which losses huge amounts of resources and destroys thousand million hectares of crops, properties, houses. animal life and as well as human li fe. North Bengal is one of the most flood prone areas in India where almost every year flood occurred due to heavy rainfall at the catchment areas of Ganga, Mahananda, Fulhar, Punarbhaba, Kalindi, Tangon, Atreyee, etc. The paper tries to find out the actual situation during flood and also trace out the situation before flood.
