This article presents information on syphilis. Syphilis is one of the only sexually transmitted diseases with a history longer than gonorrhea. Syphilis is caused by the bacteria Treponema pallidum. These bacteria have an interesting corkscrew shape and thrive in the same warm,moist areas of the human body that the gonorrhea bacteria love. Syphilis is usually passed from person to person through intimate sexual contact. Fortunately,syphilis is almost always completely curable with injections of penicillin. |
