Abstrakt: Emerging research on the new diagnostic category of Attenuated Psychosis Syndrome (APS) suggests benefits of targeting schizophrenia during the early prodromal adolescent phase, characterized by substantial alterations to thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that already begin to impair thinking skills and social relationships. Providing effective treatments during this early phase may mitigate the debilitating trajectory of chronic psychosis. A unique adolescent treatment program at The Institute of Living offers evidence-based, comprehensive care that has been shown to produce enduring benefits in this population. This program, Advanced Services for Adolescents with Psychosis (ASAP), is part of an international endeavor to study APS, understand it, and eventually develop and disseminate treatments to prevent the onset of schizophrenia. A program such as ASAP can bridge the gap between cutting-edge research for psychosis and the current largely unmet needs for clinical care. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
