This article features several studies related to the field of communication in the U.S. included in the Educational Resources Information Center (ERIC) system. "Mentoring and Organizational Communication: A Review of the Research," by Brant Short and Matthew Seeger, is a survey of 1,200 leading executives in the U.S. It found that two-thirds of those surveyed had a mentor, that the number of these relationships is growing, and that those who have had mentors earn more money at a younger age and are happier with their career progress. This paper reviews current literature and the status of mentoring in organizational relationships. "Developing Organizational Members' Communicative Abilities: A Rationale for Specific Methods," by Beverly Sypher and Rona Roberts. This paper concentrates on four communication development methods which include case studies, inventories, role playing and coaching. It points out where and when they are most effective. "Organizational Communication Theory and Practice Courses in the Undergraduate Curriculum," by Anita James and Michael Smilowitz. This paper describes Ohio University's introductory course in organizational communication and senior practicum in terms of philosophy, objectives, assignments and projects. |
