This section contains information about U.S. National Communication Association members and about the communication discipline as of May 1999. Richard J. Jensen of the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, received the 1998-1999 Barrick Distinguished Scholar Award. the award, among the university's most prestigious, is presented by a committee of past recipients by a committee of the honor and carried with it a $5,000 research stipend. J. D. Wallace of Cameron University, received a $3,7000 innovative instruction grant from the university to pilot the use of virtual work groups in the classroom with geographically dispersed members. The Summer Institute for Intercultural Communication offers [professional development opportunities for people working in education, training, business, counseling and consulting in domestic diversity and international/intercultural contexts. Phyllis Carlin and Jayne Morgan of the University of Iowa, and graduate student Laura Sohl presented papers at the International Interdisciplinary Qualitative Research Conference in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Their symposium, Narrative and Dramatic Scenes in the Performance of Illness/Health Experiences focused on ethnographic analysis methods in health contexts. |
