Abstrakt: This article offers a biographical sketch of Texas writer Elizabeth Forsythe Hailey. Hailey's novel, A Woman of Independent Means, received the Silver Medal from the Commonwealth Club of California for best first novel and was nominated for the Texas Institute of Arts and Letters award for best work of fiction. Her second novel Life Sentences was another popular success. Joanna's Husband and David's Wife, Hailey's third novel, drew again on the resources that were the strengths of her first. It received more favorable reviews than Life Sentences.
