Abstrakt: | The article discusses association of snakes with medical practice and healing. Topics discussed include evidence of snake veneration in the context of rain and fertility rites dating back to the Paleolithic, Neolithic, and Bronze ages; aspects of a dualism in the iconography of snakes; and misappropriation of the caduceus as a symbol of medical or health related organizations. |
