When we look closer to home--in the colleges and universities at which many of us work--we also see a system that parses its participants into those who are at the table and those who are on the margins. Which students are college-ready? Whose languages are valued? Which faculty members have tenure and voting rights? Who serves on which committees, and why? Whose ideas tend to be heard?
