The present research is focused on understanding the intensity of illusionary relationship, of the audience, with the political leaders in Pakistan. The study aimed to understand how interpersonal attraction (IA) influences para-social interaction among people with different gender and age groups. Using the survey method, 398 participants were selected from Islamabad and Rawalpindi by employing a stratified sampling technique. While the gender of the selected participants showed no relationship with PSI, the results indicated that the frequency of watching programs and age of the participants was a significant predictor of the PSI level. Amongst the three forms of interpersonal attraction, physical attraction surfaced to be the best predictor of PSI with political leaders. The study also identified that the participants with high PSI and IA, towards the political leaders, showed strong party identification. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
