The article presents information on the impact of providing legal evidence on a witness. In Great Britain there is a division in the justice system between civil and criminal law. In England, Wales and Northern Ireland cases are heard in civil, criminal or coroner's courts, but the system differs somewhat in Scotland. In England, Wales and Northern Ireland, the civil court is asked to settle disputes between the claimant and the defendant and decide if, and how much, compensation should be paid. Statements are taken from both lay and medical witnesses and these can form the basis of oral testimony at a future trial. |
