Designing a Low-Cost Automated Storage and Retrieval System for Hazardous Materials.

Abstrakt: This paper presents a safe and efficient storage system for dangerous materials. Storage systems are usually operated by humans, by using different types of machines, but some of these activities can be dangerous for humans and for the packages. By using hazardous materials, the consequences in case of an accident are increased depending on the damaged material. The aim of this paper is to present a new design of a deposit for dangerous materials which assures a safe storage and handling by automatically placing the packages in the storage. The proposed system has a transport system which can move between the shelfs vertically and horizontally, bringing the package to a door positioned on the bottom of the storage unit, which opens for the package to be delivered. Afterwards the system will wait until the package is claimed, returns to its idle position and the door will automatically close. The entire storage is password protected, each user having their own set of privileges. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
