Abstrakt: In this issue we continue our exploration of the coinage of the Mercian kingdom in the eighth and ninth centuries with the coins of this important Mercian king. When Coenwulf established power in Kent, the archiepiscopal coins named both king and archbishop (Fig.27). Archbishops of Canterbury, Æthelheard (792-805) with Coenwulf, silver penny, Tribrach type, Canterbury. In 2001 a unique gold coin was discovered by metal detectorists near Biggleswade in Bedfordshire. [Extracted from the article]
