Abstrakt: Victoria County's rich avian diversity of 356 species is enabled by its position at the junction of four great ecosystems: Coastal Prairie, Coastal Marshes and Bays, Post Oak Savannah, and South Texas Plains. Bird communities in these areas have been described in the "Classic" The Bird Life of Texas and The Texas Ornithological Society Handbook of Texas Birds. Eubanks et al. described areas north of Matagorda County, and Rappole and Blacklock south of Calhoun and Victoria Counties, but not Victoria County. Elwonger contributed greatly to the development of a checklist for the area but did not go into any detail on population status. This paper will expand on these earlier works by providing population and banding data along with life history information for all avian species known to have occurredt in the County.
