Social Media and Diasporic Cultural Identity: Reflection of Brown-vs-White Identity in videos by ZaidAliT.

Abstrakt: Online comic videos have emerged as a new genre of entertainment nowadays. Diasporas had also used this medium to communicate the complexity of their cultural identity. The short videos ZaidAliT made expressed the intricacies of living with one culture but practicing a cultural identity defined by his parents in line with the Pakistani cultural norms. The comparison of brown with white culture gives us an insight into sophisticated patterns of communication, language, behavior, and relationships. The sample consisted of 86 videos made and uploaded by ZaidAliT on his Facebook page. The qualitative analysis of the videos provided insight as it identified meanings, norms, and behavior patterns in the two cultures communicated through videos. This study contributed towards the field of videos on the internet in the application of cultural discourse analysis theory as it explained the Diasporas of Brown and White culture.
